The Negotiation

Play episode

“And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

“Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.” -Gen 19:17-20

Lot’s afflicted soul in Sodom obtained mercy from God. He and his family were rescued from the destruction of the cities whose sins were grievous in God’s sight. The Messengers of God gave clear instructions that they were to flee to the mountain, to escape for their lives lest they be consumed. They were not to dwell in ALL the plains.

Lot negotiated for a corrupted ground, a city that ought to be destroyed (Bela also known as Zoar) rather than escaping to God’s providence prepared for him by God- the mountain. Alas! He never knew that the ground would sink his home.

Which ground have you negotiated with the Lord that you want to settle in, be warned, flee to the mountain before it is too late? The Rock of Ages (Jesus) has prepared a cleft for you and your family on that mountain to start anew with the Lord.

Friends, which business, friendship, ministry, relationship grounds, etc are you praying and negotiating with the Lord, be warned, to you it might be a little city and harmless, but Lot’s wife who experienced the divine touch and handled the angel’s hand was ‘sunk’ and debarred from God’s divine grace by this sweetest frame. The demise of Lot’s wife was the precursor, the foundation of many sorrowful events that befell that family as we see in this study series.

Sever ties with these grievous grounds (business, friendship, ministry and relationship) that have greatly worn you out, tortured and distressed your soul by their wanton ways every day (2 Peter 2v7-8, Amplified bible) and begin afresh with the Lord in the cleft of His rock. The time to act is now!

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

On Christ the solid Rock I stand!
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

His oath, His covenant His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my Hope and Stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

I pray we will never prevail over God in our desire, but we will humble our hearts in His word and instructions. Amen. For the Lord has said that His Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh (after the fleshy desires), Gen 6:3
